How We Make a Difference

Building Shared Community

Together We Grow Stronger!

The NWSN was formed by a dedicated and passionate group of leaders from shelters and safe haven programs across the country to create and build shared community with other women’s shelters and safe haven programs, recognizing we are stronger together! The NWSN kicked off its Inaugural Conference in September 2023 in Miami, where over 220 shelter leaders and other experts from around the country convened to learn from each other, network, share information, best practices, research and innovation, trade contacts, resources and connections, meet new and old friends, and build for the a passionate and compassionate community of those in shared mission and service who live and breathe this important work every day.

We are all looking forward to our next gathering at the NWSN 2025 National Conference in Washington, D.C. In the meantime, the NWSN working committees are convening a summer 2024 working symposium to prepare for the conference. Check out the Members Only Forum for more information sharing, grant funding opportunities, policy, news and advocacy alerts. Together we grow stronger! Join us!

Supporting Shelters and Safe Haven Programs in Local Communities Across the Country

The National Women’s Shelter Network is the only national association which is by women’s and family shelters and safe haven programs for women’s and family shelters and safe havens all across America, facing the desperate pleas for help from women, children and families in need on the ground every day and doing the hard work it takes to save and change lives. The NWSN is laser-focused in supporting its member shelters and safe haven programs in local communities everywhere because we know they are the last and final safety net for the most vulnerable women, children and families in our nation, the majority of whom are victims of violence and other traumas. We aim to advance the capacity of shelters and safe havens to address the specific needs of women, children and families in transition by providing multi-faceted, comprehensive resources based on real world experience. We help shelters and safe havens be their best through information sharing, education, training, research, resources and networking to support their programming, supportive services, operations, fundraising and organizational capacity, creating connections, advocating for more funding and resources, building shared community, and advancing public and social policies to end and prevent homelessness.
